Sophie Young

About Sophie Young: Montreal singer/songwriter Sophie Young has been inspired for writing music and singing for as long as she can remember. She started off as front-woman for a trip-hop, rock band, called 'Modern Stories'. The press compared her to a mixture of PJ Harvey, Portishead, and Garbage. They played numerous venues, including opening for 'Men at work' and the 'New Radicals' as well as'Moist'.

Sophie has since released her first self-titled album in 2006 and won top honors in the regional contingent of the ‘National Songwriting Competition’ for her single ‘Waiting for the Sun’, which got heavy rotation on Montreal’s Mix 96 radio station and reached the top 10 on the radio charts. She has also received numerous positive feedbacks:

“Her first solo album, a compilation of pop-folk acoustic music is a very pleasant listen, even at full blast in the car.” Ch?telaine (Qu?bec)-July 2006 -Caroline Fortin

“The album comes in fresh like the breeze, brought in from the modulations of Sophie Young’s very intriguing voice.” Le Droit (Ottawa)-July 2006- Val?rie Lessard

'...Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega and even Melissa Etheridge. Some of my favorite tracks on the album are "Waiting for the Sun", "Moonshine Bar", "Subway Track", and "Drifting". An album to check out for the summer season.” Denis L?vesque (musical director) - CHRM 105.3 FM in Matane, Qu?bec

Always creative, recently Sophie is setting her sights on writing an album in each the french and english languages.
