Kasuf & The Mazz Muvement

About Kasuf & The Mazz Muvement: Kerwin Young, Composer, Ethno-musicologist, Instrumentalist, Music Producer, is an eminent 21st century composer. Kerwin has always possessed a genius for crafting evocative new musical worlds. His fondness of unsullied, pioneering, sonic landscapes and his gift at orchestration and musicianship have allowed him to create a signature sound that's memorable, yet constantly evolving. Composing everything from Bach to Rock, the musical works of this honorable man encompass the realms of classical, jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop and pop.

Kerwin, who considers himself a geometric khemist, specializing in the orchestration of mensural frequencies (energy), was born in Far Rockaway, New York, April 19, 1970. He began studying alto saxophone at the age of nine, playing in his elementary and junior high school bands. At age fourteen he put down the saxophone and started to deejay local parties. He eventually became a nightclub disc jockey in 1988, at Long Island’s infamous Spectrum Cafe, alongside New York's very own DJ Tommie Allen. By then a college freshman, he had already been hanging around the recording studio of the rap group Public Enemy since the late summer of 1987, eventually becoming a permanent member of the band’s production team known as the Bomb Squad. His first assignment as a music producer came in 1989 with Professor Griff & The Last Asiatic Disciples’ debut album, “Pawns In The Game”.

From 1989 to the present, Kerwin Young has collaborated with hundreds of artists and producers that include Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff, Spike Lee, Bobby Brown, Public Enemy, Tevin Campbell, Angie Stone, Nick Martinelli, Jerry Poindexter of the James Brown band, Bootsy Collins, Alan Douglas, Roy Haynes, Eddie Kendricks, Ice Cube, Luke Skywalker and the 2 Live Crew, Busta Rhymes, Mobb Deep, Eric B. & Rakim, The Suns (formerly known as The Boys), Kyle Jason, and Yung Joc. He has composed for motion pictures, which include: Green Card (1990), Sister Act 2 (1992), Street Fighter (1994), Tar (1997), He Got Game (1998), Mixing Nia (1998), Cut Me A New Path (2002), and The Chip Factor (2006), as well as for television: New York Undercover (1994), Girlfriends (2000), and Flavor Of Love (2006).
