About NFChase: In his ongoing quest for unusual musical possibilities, composer NF (Nick) Chase has played mannequin limbs, walkie-talkies, lying inside a piano, riding a bicycle—and traditionally singing, talking, and properly on the piano keys.

Mentored by seminal modern music masters James Tenney, Stephen “Lucky” Mosko, Bunita Marcus, and electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick, Chase is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts, and earned his PhD candidacy working with Pauline Oliveros.

Chase has written for the California EAR Unit, New Zealand’s 175 East, the Philadelphia Classical Symphony, and the Long Beach Opera to name a few, and has been a featured artist with the “Music from the Edge” festival at Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), composer in residence at the Janaçek Academie of Music and Performing Arts’ “New Music+” festival in the Czech Republic, and inaugural Composer Fellow at the 2011 Other Minds Festival in San Francisco.

His DJ/VJ performance with improvising trio NIRUSU III earned him acclaim from the L.A. Weekly as an “Eye/ear explorer…pushing the edge of audio/visual improv,” while his interactive composition Transmission for FM radio and closed-circuit TV was featured at the 2008 Whitney Biennial.

Chase has been recording his newest “eclection” of musical works through Jack Straw’s Artist Support Program in Seattle.
