About Malexa: Who is MALEXA ? MALEXA is a POP-CROSSOVER project featuring the british singer and songwriter PENNY FOSTER (recently appeared on DAVE SPOON's "THIS MACHINE" released by TOOLROOM REECORDS) and the britalic producer Mahjong.
PENNY FOSTER is from London UK. She trained at the Brit School as per Amy Winehouse, and graduated in Pop Music (vocals) from ACM. Then, what started as a plan to get studio time by co-writing and recording with producers, has led to her songwriting being recognised and supported by MD's of four major independent publishers- PigFactory, Notting Hill, Peer and Phantom 4 Music, who in turn have placed her with chart producers and given her access to their libraries of instrumental backing tracks to top-line. Producers she collaborates with get two for the price of one with Penny because she vocalises to performance level, and this is why tracks have been submitted in varying genres with some success. " No Shame" for example reached number one on Pulse/Sky digital with 150,000 votes, and this week has reappeared in the American Idol Underground top 50 chart. "Disconnected"reached no 1 on Moozikoo radio in Nashville. " Warning" was voted number one on BBC radio 1 " One unsigned", and " This Machine", written by and featuring Penny Foster has been released worldwide on "Fierce Disco", with amazing reactions and airplay from DJ's and radio across Europe, in Toronto and Singapore, on BBC Radio 1 Pete Tong's essential mix, and it charted no 1 on Kiss FM in December. As a vocalist she has provided backing vocals for Shania Twain, on the Desperate Housewives album, and " Welcome to the Real World" was picked up by Steven Stone and recorded by Fat Joe for the US MTV reality show " 30 Days Till I'm Famous". Also, a topline for Erik Lidbom, one of the writers on 30 days, was shortlisted, amongst tracks from global publishers. As an artist her foremost genre is guitar based Indie Pop/Rock. She trained alongside classes full of male guitarists, drummers and producers, and can hold her own when it comes to the indie rock scene in the UK. She has just recruited a top class band and made a narrative style video which was filmed in a part of old London, near London Bridge. She has formed her own label, called Portobello Road Records (part of the Hesler Group of Companies) as a vehicle for her artist album which covers the whole indie spectrum - loud, melodic, introspective and accoustic in different measures, and with just a touch of electro to add interest.
