Useless Beauty

About Useless Beauty: On a December afternoon in 2006, Nam Choi and Katie Boone paired up to begin a musical journey that has led them through the streets of NYC, spreading their music and good cheer.

Useless Beauty's songs communicate joy, sorrow, the ups and downs of love, innocence and the loss thereof, tongue-in-cheek humor and silliness... and everything in between. Above all, Useless Beauty aspires to find a language that reaches out to people and conveys their hidden desires and stories.

Their influences are wide-ranging; they especially admire those who make unusual sounds that inspire people, from the street musicians in NYC to Icelandic experimentalists.

Following their recognition as a Suggested Artist in the Song of the Year contest in 2007, Useless Beauty recorded a demo at NYU with producer/engineer Ted Clayton of One20 Productions (Wu-Tang Clan, MoeRoc), then a year later went back into the studio at The Buddy Project in Queens with engineer Zack McNees (Bjork, Paul Simon, John Legend).

In summer 2009, Useless Beauty received Honorable Mention in the 16th Annual Billboard World Song Contest (for "Only Reason") and recorded Sugar Crush EP at Mother West Studio with engineer Charles Newman (Erykah Badu, The Magnetic Fields) and at Plan 9 Studio with producer/engineer Paolo DeGregorio (We Are Scientists, editor-in-chief of The Deli magazine). They were joined by Stuart Solomon (guitar), Peter Cobb (alto saxophone) and Sharon Fischman (drums).
