Junior "One Blood" Reid

About Junior "One Blood" Reid: Few artists currently active in any genre boast as impressive a resume as Junior Reid. Best known for his 1988 hip-hop/reggae anthem “One Blood,” and for recent collaborations with The Game (“It’s Okay”) , M.I.M.S. (“This Is Why I’m Hot” Remix), Lil’ Wayne (“Ghetto Youth Rock”), Alicia Keys (No One” Reggae Remix), Smitty feat. Rick Ross and T-Pain (“Died in Your Arms” Remix) and Miguel Migs (“Fire”), Reid has been active as an artist since the late ‘70s, when he recorded “Speak the Truth” for the late Hugh Mundell, at the tender age of 12. Reid’s music remains relevant, he says, because he still relates to the perspective of ghetto youths worldwide: “I can’t forget where I’m coming from. So me mek sure me remember always the ghetto youth, y’unnderstand? When the ghetto youth dem see a man like me, still dem know they have someone in their corner.”
In 2010, Reid returns with a big statement: Living Legend, his first solo studio album since 2003, and his first for Oakland-based ABB Records. The album offers Reid’s signature, trademarked blend of hip-hop/reggae bangers, romantic lover’s rock ditties, and spiritual Rasta tunes with strong social and environmental messages—proving that the nimble-tongued reggae veteran is still as potent as ever.
